Further projects in the framework of the Swiss-Polish Cooperation Programme have their official inauguration. Among them are programs to support welfare homes and care and education centers in the provinces of Lublin and the Malopolska and development project Warsaw Commuter Rail.
Support for welfare homes and care and education centers
Support for welfare homes and care and education centers by streamlining services and improving skills of staff employed there is the main objective of the program Improving the quality of services provided in social welfare homes and care and education centers. Carried out by the Regional Centre for Social Policy in Lublin.
The project was officially inaugurated on 6 December 2012, during a conference with attendance of the Swiss Embassy, NCU and Office for Foreign Aid Programs in Health Care officials.
The project is aimed at welfare homes and twenty-four hour day care facilities in the Province of Lublin and will be implemented until 31 December 2014. The project's total budget is approximately CHF 6 million, of which 85 % is the Swiss contribution share. The project will be able to accomplish the following tasks:
to improve infrastructure of welfare homes and care and education centers (reconstruction, expansion, modernization, thermal, and associated infrastructure) and provide them with equipment, including rehabilitation serving the disabled, home electronics, computers, furniture;
to increase the skills of staff working directly with the residents of welfare homes and care and education centers through courses, training and post-graduate studies;
to increase the skills of staff in welfare homes (qualification courses and training specialist) and providing them with small medical equipment.
A similar by nature is the project Helping hand in a safe environment carried out by the Regional Centre for Social Policy in Krakow. Its aim is to increase the availability of social services for the population of Małopolska Region. This will be achieved by improving the infrastructure of welfare homes and care and education centers, providing them with equipment and improving the services of the staff.
The project will be completed in mid 2015. The total budget of more than 6 million CHF. Similarly to measures in Lubelskie region, project in Kraków consists of three actions aimed at renovating, expanding or furnishing facilities, training of professional staff and the organization of specialized courses and training for nursing staff and provision of basic equipment.
The project was officially launched during the Congress of the Social Policy in Malopolska - (not) waiting for an old age - challenges for social policy facing demographic change, which took place on 15 and 16 November 2012 in Krakow.
The development of public passenger transport system in Warsaw
November 7, 2012, in Warsaw, officially inaugurated the launch of Warsaw Commuter Rail project. The amount of more than 57.8 million zł out of the Swiss contribution was assigned for purchase of new trains and the creation of a modern passenger information system and monitoring at all stops in the WKD line. The project with a total value of 124.7 million zł will be completed by mid 2016.
The project entitled Development of the public passenger transport system in Warsaw metropolitan area through improvement of the Warsaw commuter rail (WCR) efficiency, reliability and safety includes the purchase of 6 pieces of new electric multiple units to operate regional railway connections on the WKD line and installation on all stations and stops electronic information boards and cameras of Passenger Information System and Monitoring. The investment will improve communication in six districts and two districts of south-western Warsaw and increase a travel comfort and security.
