Department of Culture is the organizer of cultural institutions subordinate to the voivodeship. It carries out activities related to the promotion of culture and cultural heritage.

It also deals with the protection of monuments, the care of cultural heritage and monuments, and cooperates with the Pomeranian Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments. It supports and promotes creativity, cultural education, cultural activities and initiatives, and the protection of cultural heritage.

It prepares and collects documentation on the Solidarity Center Foundation, the “Roads to Independence” Film Archive Foundation, and the Pomeranian Film Foundation in Gdynia.

In addition, it cooperates with entities conducting cultural activities in the field of fundraising, mainly within the framework of aid programmes, and monitors and coordinates the preparation of applications and the implementation of projects under the Regional Operational Programme for the Pomeranian Voivodeship 2014-2020 and Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme.

It is preparing a draft opinion for the voivodeship government on a municipality’s application to establish an additional name for a physiographic feature in the Kashubian language.
