The meeting was dedicated to the arrangements, essential in the planning stage, regarding joint development by the six provinces of a programme of activities aimed at revitalisation of the waterway, consisting of the connected rivers from the Oder, via the Warta, Nysa, Bydgoszcz Canal, Brda and Vistula to the Vistula Lagoon. This route joins the well-developed western European inland water system via the Oder-Havel canal, and, as such, has the potential of becoming an attractive waterway both for water tourism and transport. Unfortunately, its present condition does not allow these qualities to be fully taken advantage of. For the purpose of revitalising the Oder-Vistula waterway, cooperation is essential with relevant Regional Waterways Administrations – state institutions responsible for the condition of waterways, and, most of all, with the authorities of communes located along the rivers, who are administrators of the existing and planned ports, harbours and marinas. The participants to the meeting unanimously confirmed that it was necessary to determine the targeted navigability parameters for the waterways (which vessels will be able to navigate on the waterways), specify the time-limits and estimate the costs. These issues can only be addressed by developing a professional analysis which will take into account the present condition, the needs and the targeted projects. It was also agreed that the future cooperation with regard to the IWW E70 would include arrangements as to the promotion of tourist routes, boating events and joint cultural events.
