Meeting of the interregional team for the international waterway e70 in Gorzów Wielkopolkski

During the meeting, the participants discussed the current cooperation of the government and self-governments with regard to revitalization of the international waterway E70, especially when it comes to removal of so-called bottlenecks which limit navigation. Confirmation for navigation issue was a presentation of results from the study shown by the Faculty of Waterways Revitalization of the Kazimierz Wielki University from Bydgoszcz. The studies were conducted during June – July 2015 at the Polish section of the International Waterway E70 (connection Oder – Havel canal – Brda estuary). The results showed that the river Noteć and Bydgoszcz Canal are in particular characterized by poorer depth conditions when it comes to inland waterways. An additional difficulty for navigation on the abovementioned rivers were low water levels which eventually led to closure of the navigation route. The participants discussed also preparation of promotional actions which will be related to presentation of an offer of water tourism on IW E70 during the fairs of sailing and water sports BootShow in Łódź. Within the next-year plan of cooperation, the members of the IW E70 Team presented proposals connected with continuation of the promotional campaign for the Polish section of the IW E70 on the Polish and German markets. At the second meeting, the Marshal of the Lubuskie Region, Romuald Gawlik, took part. He emphasized the meaning of the IW E70 for the Lubuskie Region. He mentioned also many-years of negligence in water management which hinders development of inland waterway transport and water tourism. Next, Daniel Mackiewicz, the Manager of the Physical Culture Branch in the Department for Social Infrastructure presented potential of the water tourism in the Lubuskie Region. Łukasz Kozłowski – the president of the “Oder for Toursists” Association presented a project “Odra for tourists 2014 – development of water tourism at the cross-border area in the Middle Oder Valley – stage II” – which was financed within the Operational Program for the Cross-border Cooperation Poland (Lubuskie Region) – Brandenburg 2007-2013. The project consisted in rebuilding 4 ports in Bytom Odrzański, Nowa Sól, Cigacice, Franfurt (Oder), and delivery of 2 ferries for navigation on the Oder at the section Bytom Odrzański – Kostrzyn nad Odrą as well as in promotional and marketing actions to create a coherent promotion of the Oder basin. The last part of the meeting of the Team for IW E70 took place in the winter port in Gorzów Wielkopolski. The guide was the President of the Water Association “Przystań Gorzów”, Łukasz Burak, who presented actions of the organization (restoration and renovation of old boats, barges and their equipment).
