The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship took the initiative in coordinating efforts in the planned revitalisation of the International Waterway E40 in its Gdańsk-Bydgoszcz-Toruń-Warsaw section. On 5 March 2012, at the 19th Economic Forum in Toruń, Marshals of three Provinces (Pomorskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, and Mazowieckie) signed a Letter of Intent to cooperate in promoting economic revival along the planned International Waterway E40 in the Gdańsk-Bydgoszcz-Toruń -Warsaw section. (letter for download in pdf). The cooperation is aimed at promoting the idea and informing about various ways of utilising the Vistula while complying with all the environmental, social and economic priorities. This will help to increase the economic values of the regions along this section of the river and will bring benefits through increased interest in utilising the transport and hydropower potential of the lower course of the Vistula.
The next step on the road is appointment of a working team, to be made up of representatives from all walks of life: from experts in hydrology, transport, economy, economics and ecology to social psychology specialists. They will look at the issue of the IWW E40 revitalisation from many different perspectives and will be able to prepare the objectives expressed in the letter of intent, give their opinions and support the work.
